Cream: Royal Albert Hall, London May 2-3-5-6 2005

After a 37 year absence Cream reformed in May 2005 for a series of concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, the stage of their last UK performance. As befitting a trio whose focus was always squarely on the music, they emerge to no fanfare, briefly test their instruments and launch into the perfectly apt "I'm So Glad." Drawing from each of their four studio albums, they revisit the songs for their inherent resonance and as a springboard for their instrumental interplay. There's no need to update the material, as it all still fits each of the three men like a thousand dollar suit. Bruce's vocals still soar with operatic bearing, Clapton sounds energized, freed from the production cushioning on his own recordings, and Baker, now in his mid-sixties, can still dazzle with his solo turn on "Toad."

Deep Purple: ...To the Rising Sun (Tokyo)

On the very same venue where the band has written rock history with the album “Made In Japan”, Deep Purple went on stage without nostalgia and with the attitude of a band that is physically led by the music, making playing a perfect show look as the most natural thing one could do. “...To The Rising Sun In Tokyo” captures this moment perfectly. Song after song, Purple play a flawless show going back and forth in time. Deep Purple’s many sides are at their best here: the energy but also the groove, the great solo moments by Don Airey and Steve Morse. The soft sides and their energetic heavy counterparts. Every member of the band is in fantastic form, the band being strong from a full tour together, and the performance seems to be driving the band through the song like if audience and band were suspended in time. Filmed by 12 HD cameras and recorded by a top mobile studio, the show offers one of the most magical performances of the “NOW What?!” tour.

Deep Purple: From the Setting Sun... (Wacken)

Wacken Open Air quickly grew its reputation as the most important metal festival in continental Europe. A peaceful gathering of metal fans coming from all over the world. Long hair, leather clothes, mud and a lot of fun for what seems to be the closest music to resemble the spirit of festivals in the early seventies. They often say that there is no headliner at Wacken: the festival itself is the headliner. This is the exact feeling that Purple had when walking on stage. If an indoor show can be based on a production that is safely rehearsed and set up to the maximum precision... there is never the guarantee that a festival performance will be free from technical issues or any kind of unexpected event. Which in other words means: tension is always at the top! If only Purple knew about the level of love and welcoming they were about to receive and how much their album has been loved by the metal audience in front of them... still, the band felt the “pressure” to introduce themselves to the 90.000 metal fans.

James Brown: Live at Chastain Park

In his final years Brown had staged a remarkable career comeback by anyone's standards. In the U.K. alone he performed to huge audiences in a series of high-profile televised concerts that were seen by millions. These included the 2002 Queen's Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, a TV Special filmed at London's Union Chapel and his show-stopping appearances at the 2004 Glastonbury Festival and Edinburgh's 2005 Live 8 concert. Revered for years by generations of rappers, samplers and funksters, all this high profile media exposure introduced his work to a whole new generation of listeners. Remarkable as his latest live performances were, James Brown was at the height of his considerable powers when the two sensational performances featured were filmed. In contrast to the comparatively intimate setting of Studio 54, this second featured show captures him on home turf in 1985 when he played Atlanta's gigantic Chastain Park Stadium. Following the basic formula of a James Brown show, this show features impassioned readings of all-time stage favourites - such as 'Please, Please, Please', 'Papa's Got A Brand, New Bag' and 'It's A Man's, Man's, Man's World' - with a sprinkling of recent songs thrown in for good measure.

Jimi Hendrix Experience: Electric Church

Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church presents the legendary guitarist in full flight at the 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival before the largest US audience of his career. This critically acclaimed film combines color, 16mm multi-camera footage of Hendrix's unforgettable July 4, 1970 concert in it's original performance sequence together with a new documentary that traces his journey to the festival amidst the dark shadow of civil rights unrest, the unrelenting toll of the Vietnam War and a burgeoning festival culture that drew together young people across the country who were inspired by the Woodstock festival. The film details Hendrix's integral role in drawing nearly 500,000 people to his Electric Church- a dusty, scorching hot pecan orchard in Byron, Georgia some 100 miles south of Atlanta. Together with Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Billy Cox, Jimi skillfully blended favorites such as "Purple Haze, " "All Along The Watchtower, " and "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" with confident renditions of new songs such as "Freedom" and "Straight Ahead" that had not yet been released on album. As a colorful fireworks display stretched overhead across the night sky, Jimi performed the "Star Spangled Banner" to the wild delight of the massive audience. The performance footage of the Experience has been carefully restored from the original negative in high definition. The audio soundtrack includes stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes by Eddie Kramer directly from the original master tapes.

Lang Lang & Andris Nelsons: Saint-Saëns's Piano Concerto No. 2

Chinese superstar Lang Lang is the soloist in Saint-Saëns's scintillating Piano Concerto No.2, joining the Gewandhausorchester and Gewandhauskapellmeister Andris Nelsons. One of the composer's most popular works, the second concerto was written in just 17 days in the spring of 1868 and was once humorously described as "beginning like Bach and ending like Offenbach". Its different styles certainly offer the virtuoso pianist the opportunity to display all sides of his or her technique – as Lang Lang does to scintillating effect here. The Bach-inspired first movement, meanwhile, provides the inspiration for the rest of the programme, which features rare and fascinating Bach orchestrations by Mahler, Elgar and Reger.

Lynyrd Skynyrd: Sweet Home Alabama - Live At Rockpalast 1996

Lynyrd Skynyrd are the ultimate Southern Rock band. Their signature three guitar attack coupled to superb songwriting and massive on stage charisma has rightfully earned them a reputation as one of the greatest live bands of all time. The original band infamously had their career cut short by a disastrous plane crash in 1977 which took the lives of three members plus two of their road crew and seriously injured several others. In 1987 the surviving members reformed the band with Johnny Van Zant taking the place of his brother Ronnie. Monterey Pop

On a beautiful June weekend in 1967, at the height of the Summer of Love, the first and only Monterey International Pop Festival roared forward, capturing a decade’s spirit and ushering in a new era of rock and roll. Monterey would launch the careers of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Otis Redding, but they were just a few among a wildly diverse cast that included Simon and Garfunkel, the Mamas and the Papas, the Who, the Byrds, Hugh Masekela, and the extraordinary Ravi Shankar. With his characteristic vérité style, D. A. Pennebaker captured it all, immortalizing moments that have become legend: Pete Townshend destroying his guitar, Jimi Hendrix burning his. Hugely prolific throughout the fifties, sixties and seventies, she recorded only rarely in her later career, but remained a major live performer until well into the nineties when, becoming increasingly frail, she retired to France where she died in 2003 at the age of 70. Nina Simone made four appearances at the Montreux Festival between 1968 and 1990. This concert film features the whole performance from 1976.

Nirvana: Live at the Paramount

1991 live concert from the legendary rock band Nirvana. Nirvana shot to stardom in the early 1990s with the release of their seminal album 'Nevermind'. Hailing from a small town outside Seattle and led by the talented but fragile Kurt Cobain, the album was a surprise success and spawned numerous offshoots and a whole new movement known as 'grunge'. The band were never entirely comfortable with this label or their mainstream success in general and disbanded in 1994 after Cobain's suicide. This release captures them at their peak, playing a hometown show at Seattle's Paramount Theatre on the back of the 'Nevermind' tour.

Nirvana: MTV Unplugged in New York

Kurt Cobain loved to confound his fans' expectations during his brief stint in the spotlight. So when Nirvana gathered in New York City on November 18, 1993, he had another trick up his sleeve-an acoustic performance of the raw, ferocious grunge songs that propelled the band to stardom. The results were startling, and for many viewers a hidden depth to Cobain's songwriting talents were revealed as gentle renditions of NEVERMIND staples such as "On a Plain" and "Come As You Are were stripped down and performed for a specially invited audience. Among the many highlights is th performance of "Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam which was originally by Scottish indie-pop group longstanding favorite of Cobain's) the Vaselines; stunning opening in the form of the BLEACH-era track "About a Girl"; and a selection of songs originally performed by underground rock act the Meat Puppets.

Rush: Clockwork Angels Tour

Rush Clockwork Angels Tour captures the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers' 2012-2013 sold-out tour from a unique "point-of-view" approach to filmmaking utilizing distinct composition and a "voyeuristic" style that at varying moments puts the viewer on the stage, at the side of the stage, and throughout the arena. Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus

A celebration of an artist’s life in the purest sense, Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus is the definitive swan song of one of the world’s greatest musicians. In late 2022, as a parting gift, Ryuichi Sakamoto mustered all of his energy to leave us with one final performance: a concert film featuring just him and his piano. Curated and sequenced by Sakamoto himself, the twenty pieces featured in the film wordlessly narrate his life through his wide-ranging oeuvre. The selection spans his entire career, from his pop-star period with Yellow Magic Orchestra and his magnificent scores for filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci to his meditative final album,12. Intimately filmed in a space he knew well and surrounded by his most trusted collaborators, including director Neo Sora, his son, Sakamoto bares his soul through his exquisitely haunting melodies, knowing this was the last time he would be able to present his art.

Soft Cell: Tainted Love - Live in Milan

The early 21st century proved to be an exciting time for long-time fans of synth pop masters Soft Cell. It had been nearly 20 years since original members Marc Almond and Dave Ball went their separate ways, but in 2001, the duo had patched up their differences and were ready to reunite Soft Cell for a new tour. What was thought of as a temporary re-teaming soon turned out to be a full-time proposition. 2002 saw the duo begin work on a brand new studio album, as well as launching another tour, this time in support of their stellar hits collection, ‘The Very Best Of Soft Cell’. Taped during a sold out stop at the Rolling Stone in Milan, Italy, Almond and Ball cover all the bases, including faithful renditions of such Soft Cell classics as ‘Tainted Love’ and ‘Say Hello Wave Goodbye’. The times have changed, but ‘Live In Milan’ shows that Soft Cell’s music remains as vibrant and modern as it was the first time around.

The Cure: Anniversary 1978-2018 Live in Hyde Park

At 8pm on Sunday 9th July 1978 in the rocket, a small smokey pub in Crawley Sussex, The Cure performed their very first show. Around 65 people joined in the fun.At 8pm on Saturday 7th July 2018 in Hyde park, a big green space in London, The Cure took to the stage to celebrate 40 years of playing live. Around 65,000 people joined in the fun.To capture this second historic event in all its technicolour glory, the band turned to the man responsible for most of The Cure’s iconic videos, as well as their award winning 1986 film ‘in orange’ - long-time collaborator and maverick director Tim Pope. The performance Tim Pope filmed that perfect summer evening was one of the most memorable concerts of The Cure’s long career; as giant sized screens danced, glitched and fizzled with images of raging seas, shimmering webs and broken hearts, The Cure flowed, floated, pushed, pounded and powered their way through a 29 song 135 minute spectacular, on a spellbinding trip through four decades of alternative popular music.Says pope: “I went to rehearsals in a very cramped studio just the day before the show, and sat in the group’s midst as they ran through the songs. I knew as the set list unfolded that the only way to show people the real cure was to capture not only the grand, epic dimension of their stage show, but also the close, intimate side of this band simply making music together. Never has Robert sung so well, nor has the cure played more passionately, more tightly, more powerfully.”As the film was edited together across the ensuing months, smith and pope working closely together, Cure FOH sound man Paul cornett, who had mixed the show live on the night, was brought in to help Robert create the accompanying soundscape. Mixing took place at Brighton electric studios in late 2018, final tweaks to the theatrical 5.1 audio being carried out at abbey road studios in early 2019. As with the 4k visuals pope had snared with his cameras, the aim was to create a totally immersive experience for cinema-goers.Looking back near the end of the show, Robert says to the audience “if you’d asked me in the rocket what I’d be doing in 40 years, I would have got the answer very wrong… but it’s thanks to everyone around me, and to you all as well that I’m still here… so thank you very much! It’s been a good four decades… here’s to the next one!” In march 2019 smith and the rest of The Cure – Simon Gallup, Jason Cooper, Roger O’Donnell and reeves Gabrels - were inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame, announcing exciting news later that same night about the progress of the group’s first new studio album in more than a decade.“Anniversary 1978-2018” was and is The Cure drawing a quite remarkable line between their past and their future.

The Cure: Trilogy

Three of The Cure¹s most admired and influential albums Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers, performed live in front of sell-out crowds over two memorable nights in the Tempodrom Berlin November 2002. When Robert Smith recorded the Bloodflowers album in 1999, he envisaged it as the final part of a “Dark Trilogy”. “I had the idea of taking the Trilogy to it¹s logical conclusion during The Cure¹s worldwide Dreamtour 2000; we should play all three albums live in one night and make a film. It wasn’t until Summer 2002 that I suggested the Trilogy show idea to the others in the band, and at first they were a bit sceptical -- but once we had got into rehearsals it became apparent that it was really going to work, and it did! This particular live event was always an ambitious idea, and it took a lot of mental and physical preparation; but the end result has been more than worth it. For me the realization of the Trilogy show is not only the fulfilment of a dream, but also a tribute to this band line-up; the most dynamic, the most subtle, and the most powerful; certainly the best Cure I¹ve ever played in.” -- Robert Smith

The Doors were performing on the back of their 3rd album release WAITING FOR THE SUN and the US No. 1 single 'Hello, I Love You'. They had been honing their live performances over the previous 2 years and were on absolute peak form. Now for the first time the original film footage from the Hollywood Bowl has been digitally scanned and restored to present the show better and more complete than it's ever been seen before, with 2 previously unreleased tracks returned to the running order and with sound newly remixed and mastered from the original multitrack tapes by The Doors engineer and co-producer Bruce Botnick.

The Doors: Live at the Isle of Wight

August, 1970: with Jim Morrison's ongoing Miami obscenity trial casting an ominous shadow over the band, The Doors flew to England to play the Isle of Wight Festival. Waiting for them at "The Last Great Festival" were over 600,000 fans who had already torn down the barriers, crashed the gates, and enjoyed performances by the world's top acts such as Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Miles Davis and Joni Mitchell. The Doors took the stage at 2 am, playing with the weight of the trial on their backs, and showed fans they still had the magic that had propelled them to the top during the Summer of Love. "We played with a controlled fury and Jim was in fine vocal form," said Doors organist Ray Manzarek. "He sang for all he was worth, but moved nary a muscle. Dionysus had been shackled." Less than a year later, The Doors were no more. Here, for the very first time, is the last Doors concert ever filmed.

The Rolling Stones: Charlie Is My Darling - Ireland 1965

ABKCO Films presents a meticulously restored and fully-realized version of this first-ever, legendary, but never released film. Shot during a quick tour of Ireland just weeks after “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” hit # 1 on the charts, The Rolling Stones Charlie is my Darling - Ireland 1965 is an intimate, behind-the-scenes diary of life on the road with the young Stones. It features the first professionally filmed concert performances of the band and documents the early frenzy of their fans and the riots the band’s appearances inspired. The band is shown traveling through the Irish countryside by train; dashing from cabs to cramped, basement dressing rooms through screaming hordes of fans. Motel rooms host impromptu songwriting sessions and familiar classics are heard in their infancy as riff and lyric are united. Charlie is my Darling is the invaluable frame that captures the spark about to combust into The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World.

The Rolling Stones: Hyde Park - Live 1969

It was one of the most highly anticipated gigs of 1969 and it delivered on all the promise and then some. On July 5, 1969, the Rolling Stones hosted their iconic free concert in London's Hyde Park. Having taken two years off from the road, the show was conceived as the beginning of the band's big return to the live stage. It was also planned as an introduction of their hot new guitar player, Mick Taylor. The former disciple of British blues legend John Mayall had been inducted into the Stones just a month prior. Over 400, 000 delirious fans of all ages gathered into the park for the concert. The Stones' concert in London's Hyde Park would pay homage to the late Brian Jones and usher in the new and extraordinary era of Mick Taylor (1969-74).

The Rolling Stones: No Security - San Jose '99

The Rolling Stones’ No Security tour ran from January to June 1999 through North America and Europe. It followed on from the colossal Bridges To Babylon tour and took its name from the “No Security” live album recorded on that 1997/98 tour. In reaction to the huge stadiums played on Bridges To Babylon the conscious decision was made to book smaller venues for the initial North American leg of the No Security tour. This latest addition to the acclaimed From The Vaults series was filmed at the San Jose Arena in front of an audience of a little over 30,000 (intimate by Rolling Stones standards!) at the end of the North American dates. Previously unreleased, it captures the band in top form playing a set that spans from mid-sixties hit singles up to the then current Bridges To Babylon album.

The Rolling Stones: Some Girls - Live in Texas 1978

The Rolling Stones 1978 tour of the USA in support of that year’s ‘Some Girls’ album is considered by fans to be one of their very best. The tour followed immediately on the release album and by the time the band arrived in Texas in mid-July it had hit the No.1 spot on the US charts. The tour took a back-to-basics approach, with the band and their music very much at the forefront and little or no elaborate staging. Filmed at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, on 18 July 1978, this concert is typical of the tour with the Rolling Stones delivering a raw, energetic performance in front of a crowd who clearly love the show. Many of the tracks from ‘Some Girls’ are included in the set, together with a sprinkling of Stones classics from earlier albums. Originally shot on 16mm film, the footage has been carefully restored and the sound remixed and remastered by Bob Clearmountain from the original multi-track tapes.

The Rolling Stones: Steel Wheels Live - Atlantic City, New Jersey

Having not hit the road for most of the 80s, The Steel Wheels Tour was an astounding return for the Rolling Stones, not least as it was the longest tour they had by that point undertaken. It was also to be their last with Bill Wyman. Steel Wheels Live was recorded towards the end of the band's 60-date run through the stadiums of North America, in the second half of 1989. The gate-busting ticket sales were one thing, but the stage and lighting design of The Steel Wheels Tour set the pace for superstar tours as we know them today. Special guest appearances from Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Eric Clapton and John Lee Hooker on this Atlantic City date make this an even more extraordinary document of the band's return to touring.

The Rolling Stones: Totally Stripped - Paris L'Olympia 1995

During the ‘Voodoo Lounge’ world tour, which took place in gigantic stadiums between 1994 and 1995, the Rolling Stones decided to give a handful of intimate and stripped-down concerts in small venues, in the ‘unplugged’ spirit of the time. 2000 lucky fans were able to attend the unique concert at the Olympia in Paris on July 3, 1995, right after two giant concerts at the Hippodrome de Longchamp. Tracks from the Olympia concert were already released in 2016 as part of the reissue of the documentary ‘Totally Stripped,’ but they were mixed with tracks from the Paradiso in Amsterdam and the Brixton Academy in London, recorded under the same conditions. This is therefore the first time that this highly anticipated concert is being released on its own and in its entirety.

The Who: Live At Kilburn

They are one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time. For over four decades, they have changed modern music as we know it. But some of their most famous performances have never been released... until now. On December 15, 1977, The Who performed before a select invited audience at the Gaumont State Theatre in Kilburn, North London, to record a concert for Jeff Stein's film, The Kids Are Alright, which turned out to be one of the last live performances by drummer Keith Moon. Shot in 35mm, this holy grail for fans has been digitally restored and remastered in high-definitiion for the ultimate The Who experience.

The Who: Live at Shea Stadium

The Who’s 1982 tour, which was all in North America apart from two warm-up dates at the Birmingham NEC in England, was their last to feature Kenney Jones on drums and they wouldn’t tour again until 1989. The tour promoted the recent “It’s Hard” album, which had been released in June 1982, and the set list included a number of tracks from that album, some of which the band would only play live on this tour. This concert film features the show from the second of their two nights at New York’s Shea Stadium and was filmed on October 13th 1982. Although a couple of tracks have appeared on compilations, this is the first official release of the full show and features restored footage and newly mixed sound.
